Philippine Senate expected to use RFID to reduce motorcycle crime

The Philippine Senate Judiciary and Human Rights Committee held its second public hearing on last Wednesday local time on Senator Ejercito’s submission of Senate Bill 159- the Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act.

Senator Ejercito suggests don’t requiring all motorcycles to have bulky front license plate numbers, but instead installing Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags containing the driver’s identity. “With RFID, license plate numbers cannot be transferred from one vehicle to another. And we can also include additional information in RFID, such as the owner’s name or whether the vehicle has been labeled with an alarm,” explained Ejercito.

Encela stated that RFID tags can also contain basic information about the motorcycle – registration number, license plate number, chassis number, and engine number etc information.
